How To Lose Weight In The Pool

Swimming pools are great for relaxing with friends in the summer, but it can also provide a great fat-burning workout! Every time you kick, pull, or push water, you are doing a resistance workout.

Follow these moves

  • Simple swimming – Swimming laps in the pool is great for burning fat and toning muscles! A relaxing swim can burn up to 500 calories per hour. If you are a beginner, swim and few laps and take a break before starting again. Your goal is to build up and do as many as you can without breaks!
  • The bicycle – Stand in the water with your back to the edge of the pool, resting your elbows on the side of the pool. Use your legs to “pedal” as if you are riding a bicycle. This will burn fat as well as strengthen your core, shoulders, and legs.
  • The dolphin – With both arms stretched out in front of you, grab the edge of the pool with your left hand put your right hands, fingers pointing down, just below the waterline. With your legs held together, let them float up and begin kicking like a dolphin. This will work out your core, legs, and back.
  • Tuck jump – Stand in the water and jump, bringing both legs to your chest. Do this in multiple sets to help trim your legs and strengthen your core. If you would like to make it more difficult, don’t allow your feet to touch the bottom of the pool between jumps- tread water instead.
