How to Use Your Hot Tub During Summer

During the heat of summer, most hot tub owners close the lid on their hot tub and wait until fall before they give it a second look. However, there are ways you can use your hot tub year-round!

Change the Temperature

To make your hot tub more accommodating for the summer heat, simply reduce the temperature to 85 degrees Fahrenheit or less. It is also helpful to run the spa with the cover open and air jets on to promote cooling. Since hot tubs are insulated, once you have cooled off your spa, the insulation will keep the coolness in. Always replace the cover when not in use to keep your hot tub from absorbing the sun’s heat.

Clean Water & Cover

Make sure your hot tub filter is clean and ready for use. Consider setting up a large umbrella or canopy to keep direct sunlight away from the tub and yourself while in use. Keeping those UV rays away can also extend the life of your hot tub cover. If your cover becomes waterlogged, flip it over for a day or two to let the water evaporate. Clean the underside of your cover with mild bleach water to keep the top vinyl clean and always use products that are made for vinyl and offer UV protection.

Night Soaks

When the sun goes down and the weather cools off, your hot tub will cool down too. You can also enjoy your hot tub in the early hours of morning when the sun has yet to rise. In many places, twilight, dusk, and dawn are the most ideal times to utilize your hot tub in the summer.

Clear Allergies

Summer is prime time for allergies. Hot water and steam are natural remedies for allergy symptoms, so taking a soak in your hot tub can help to clear runny noses and remedy sore throats. The warm water will also elevate your body temperature to help fight bacteria.
