Where Do I Put a Hot Tub?

Rising Sun Pools is right in the middle of our big Sundance Spas Truckload Event, and one of the big questions we’re getting is: “once I buy my hot-tub, how much room do I need to install it?” Here are some questions to ask yourself once you choose your hot tub model and location, to ensure you’re picking the perfect spot:

Do I have a foot of space on each side?

A good rule of thumb for a hot tub is to give yourself about a foot of space on each side of the tub. This leaves room for things like opening the cover. Most covers require at least 18 inches of space behind the tub as well as a few inches on the left and right side for the arm that helps you lift the cover. Plus you will want room to walk around the tub for cleaning and other maintenance.

Where are your hot tub’s access points?

Once you’ve chosen the tub of your dream, ask your dealer where the access points are on the shell for service. Most models will put these up front, just underneath the control panel, but you’ll want to be careful if you block off access to service areas, you may have to drain your hot tub more frequently for regular maintenance or service calls.

What are your hot tub’s electrical needs?

Again, look to your dealer for more information about what kind of electrical outlet your hot tub requires. Most use a standard plug, but some may have more specific requirements. Call us at 919-851-9700 to find out more about the electrical needs of our hot tub models.

Is your deck reinforced?

Hot Tubs can weigh over a thousand pounds once filled with water! If you’re planning on putting your tub on an raised deck or patio, make sure it has the proper structural reinforcement to avoid damage and added expenses.

Where are your neighbors?

Unless you want your neighbors to see you hanging out in your tub, pay attention to the sight lines around your home. In some cases you may be able to use the raised hot-tub cover as a privacy screen, but you may want to add features like fencing or foliage to increase the privacy around your tub.
