May is National Water Safety Month

May is National Water Safety Month! Pools and backyard fun are often associated with carefree summer days, but it’s important to remember that safety should always be your first priority when you’re in or around water. At Rising Sun Pools, we are committed to helping our customers stay safe while enjoying their beautiful pools. Here are some ideas to help keep safety on the minds of your whole family during National Water Safety Month, as well as the rest of the summer.

Tips for Water Safety

  • Always have a first aid kit, phone and emergency contact information by the pool.
  • Always stay within arm’s reach of young children and avoid distractions.
  • Learn to perform CPR on children and adults and update those skills regularly.
  • Keep children away from pool drains, pipes and other openings to avoid entrapments.
  • Install a four-foot or taller fence around pools and spas and use self-closing and self-latching gates.

Learn How to Swim

Learning to swim is an essential life skill that should be learned by both children and adults. Almost two million people of all ages learn to swim using the Red Cross Program each year. Download the American Red Cross swim app as a companion to swim lessons. The app can help keep track of skills and water safety topics and has games and videos to help kids retain vital swimming knowledge.

Get the Kids Involved

There are plenty of ways teach your kids about water safety while letting them have fun during the learning process. This Water Safety coloring and activity book is a great way for children to learn about staying safe in the water.

You can also encourage your child to take the Safe Swimmers Pledge, which comes with a certificate that they can sign and hang up to remind them of their commitment to staying safe in and around the water.

We hope you have a safe and fun swimming season!
