Cheer on the Carolina Panthers with These Super Bowl Recipes

Have you heard? The Carolina Panthers are going to Super Bowl 50! One of the best things about living in North Carolina is that our winters can be pretty mild, compared to other parts of the country. This means we have the opportunity to put our outdoor kitchens to use on Super Bowl Sunday.

It’s been 12 years since the Panthers last played in the big game, and we are ready to celebrate! Here are some North Carolina and football-themed recipes to make as you’re cheering on the home team to a victory.

1) Snack: Carolina Style Wings

We may be biased, but we think North Carolina makes the best kind of barbecue sauce. You can make this Carolina version of chicken wings on your Primo ceramic grill, or in your Rising Sun Pools outdoor kitchen.

  • 1 pound chicken wings, cut into segments, tips removed and discarded
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 tablespoon adobo sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 2 teaspoons granulated garlic
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Season the wings with salt and pepper. Arrange the chicken wings on a baking sheet in a single layer. Cook in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the wings from the oven to a bowl and allow to cool. Cover and refrigerate until ready to finish on the grill. To make the sauce, combine the ketchup, red wine vinegar, red chili flakes, adobo sauce, dry mustard, granulated garlic and sugar in a resealable gallon-size plastic bag and combine well. Preheat a grill to 350 degrees F, prepared for indirect heat. Add all the wings and cook for 10-15 minutes to reheat and get some grill marks, turning after 7 minutes. Remove the wings from the grill to a serving bowl. Add the sauce and toss to combine.

2) Drink: Blue Curacao Margarita

This festive drink is the perfect shade of Carolina Panthers blue!

  • 1 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ounce blue curacao
  • 1 1/2 ounce tequila

Mix together the lime juice, blue curacao and tequila. Add ice and shake or stir. Garnish with an orange slice, if desired.

3) Dessert: Football Cocoa-Crispy Rice Treats

The kids can help out with making these fun football-shaped desserts.

  • cooking spray
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • one 10 ounce bag mini marshmallows
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • salt
  • 6 cups cocoa-flavored crispy rice cereal
  • about 12 vanilla or chocolate flavored candy chews, such as Tootsie Rolls

Coat a wooden spoon and 1/3-cup dry measuring cup with cooking spray. Line a baking sheet with parchment, and coat lightly with cooking spray. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the marshmallows, honey, vanilla and a pinch of salt, and stir with the prepared wooden spoon until the marshmallows have completely melted, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, add the cereal and stir until the mixture is fully combined. Use the prepared measuring cup to scoop out the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet in mounds. Let them cool for a few seconds to make them easier to work with. Spray your hands with cooking spray and firmly press and pat each mound into a football shape. Let the treats sit at room temperature to harden slightly, about 20 minutes. Cut the candy chews lengthwise into quarters. Roll the pieces into thin ropes and cut into short and long lengths to make laces. Arrange the candy on top of each football, pressing in to help them adhere.
