Fun Days to Celebrate Around Your Pool: July Edition

This July, we hope you’re spending lots of time around your pool! We know you don’t need a special day to justify splashing around in your backyard oasis, but just in case you’d like to do some extra celebrating, here are some fun days to celebrate in the month of July.

(Yes, we realize a few of these days have already passed, but go ahead and mark them on your calendar for next year, or celebrate them any day you want!)

July 5: National Bikini Day

While the bikini is now considered to be standard swimwear, it shocked audiences when it was first unveiled at a Parisian fashion show in 1946. It was such a scandal that at its debut, some of the fashion models refused to wear it.

July 11: National Swimming Pool Day

In our opinion, this is one of the best days of the year! There’s no excuse for not taking full advantage of your pool this day. Since it falls on a weekday this year, consider making some quick sandwiches for an outside dinner, so you have more time to dedicate to swimming.

July 16: National Ice Cream Day

Technically, you can celebrate this all month long. In 1984, Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. No matter your favorite flavor, this is a fun day to celebrate poolside.

July 19: National Hot Dog Day

Did you know? According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, Americans consume approximately 20 billion hot dogs every year! Celebrate the day by grilling hot dogs in your outdoor kitchen and setting up a toppings bar so everyone can customize their dogs.

July 20: National Moon Day

This day commemorates Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon on July 20, 1969. Hop in your pool for a night swim and enjoy the view of the moon and stars above.

July 22: National Hammock Day

Kick your feet up, read a good book or listen to music and just spend some time relaxing in a hammock in your backyard. Bonus: if you get too hot laying out in the sun, you can jump right in your pool to cool off.

July 30: International Day of Friendship

In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly declared The International Day of Friendship to be on July 30. The UN encourages people to celebrate by participating in activities and events that help promote a sense of community and friendship among countries, cultures and individuals. You can participate in an individual capacity by spending time volunteering in the community or spending time with friends and family members.
