Summer is starting to wind down, but there’s still plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful weather outside around your pool over the next several weeks. If you’d like to do some extra celebrating this month, here are some fun days to observe in the month of August.
(Yes, we realize a few of these days have already passed, but go ahead and mark them on your calendar for next year, or celebrate them any day you want!)
There’s nothing quite as refreshing as eating a cold, juicy watermelon on a hot day spent outside. Take a break from swimming to enjoy a slice, or get creative and use watermelon to make a delicious drink or dessert recipe.
Whether you prefer hardcovers, paperbacks or e-books, this day is the perfect excuse to turn off the TV and dive into a new book. In our opinion, the best place to read just so happens to be poolside. To celebrate, have everyone in the family pick out their favorite book, then lounge outside around the pool and read for a bit before jumping in for a swim.
It’s easy to focus on your ever-growing to-do list and put off time dedicated for nothing more than relaxing, but this is the perfect excuse to set aside the things you need to do and take the time to focus on relaxing for the good of your body and mind. We suggest going for a gentle swim, soaking in a hot tub or just spending time outside with family.
No pool party is complete without good music! Crank up the radio and enjoy some tunes to celebrate this day. Every member of the family can get involved by taking turns to decide which station or type of music to listen to while swimming.
National Dog Day was started in 2004 in order to celebrate man’s best friend and encourage adoption. Our furry friends are part of the family; celebrate them by going for a long walk and then letting them splash around in your pool. Don’t forget to snap some photos to share them with us on Facebook!
Just Because Day is dedicated to doing anything you feel like! This year, it falls on the weekend, so take advantage of that and do whatever you want. It’d be a great opportunity for an impromptu grill out and swim day or you could plan in advance and invite your friends over for a fun pool party.
We love this day! Fire up the grill, pack a picnic, host an outdoor potluck or even grab your favorite takeout food and eat dinner al fresco. And don’t worry, you don’t actually have to wait 30 minutes after eating to go swimming, so the celebrations won’t affect your swim time.
